New School Year, New Discoveries

I just started school and  everything is a little hectic; homework, tests, quizzes, new classes and teachers,  there’s alot of new things you have to get used to, especially after a long time of staying home, taking a break, it’s kind of a shock to be back. But at the same time it’s fun, you get to see your friends everyday, and you still have another Summer to look forward to! Haha, just kidding, I really do try to enjoy school. ;-)

There was one thing I noticed in almost everyone these past few weeks, people are making an effort to understand things they didn’t before, or things they just chose to ignore, and by “things” I mean Islam. I don’t know what to think about the sudden curiosity, but it’s weird, the same kids last year that were convinced I’m a terrorist because I wear the Hijab, are actually the ones that are asking the most questions. It’s cool to see the reaction and looks on their faces when they asked me things and they get an answer. Most of them didn’t even know what religion I believe in, almost everyone thinks I’m Jewish or Buddhist, haha, it’s really funny, making opinions, pretty boldly, and not knowing a thing you’re talking about. Now I know that the reason most  people truly hate is because they don’t have the right information, they go by what they hear rather than what the Quran says, or they just try to ignore the facts and go by what they see some stupid Muslims do and they take only those peoples actions into consideration and block everything else out, even if it’s all up in their face.

Anyways, it’s just a wake up call that not everyone is going to try to understand Islam, Muslims, and Me, even though I kinda beat myself up about it last year, and now know that it’s not really a big deal, I still get kinda angry when I think about how people are soooo opinionated, when they don’t know anything about what they’re talking about(I am referring to those that think I am Jewish or Buddhist). All I’m trying to say is: If you don’t know, don’t make assumptions, and try to get the facts. Trust me, it’ll make you look a lot less stupider. And to all Muslims, if someone asks you a question about Islam, don’t act irritated, take the chance to give them the real information about our religion.
